Frequently asked questions

What textbooks are used in this course?

The recommended textbook is Heinemann Chemistry 2, 6th edition. The Heinemann Chemistry 2 Skill and Assessment Book is not strictly necessary, but can be purchased if desired for additional practice questions and practical experiment based worksheets. These books can be purchased together at many bookshops that supply VCE textbooks, for example, Campion Education (or directly via the links below). They can also be purchased separately in stores and at the Pearson Website. 

Some schools use Jacaranda Chemistry 2 or Edrolo. These can be used for supplemental reading and additional practice questions.

What are the tutorial dates and times?

What scientific calculator is used in this course?

The recommended calculator is the Texas Instruments TI-30XB. This calculator has the best functionality for VCE Chemistry. Support for the CASIO FX-82AU is provided, but we highly recommend students using the Texas Instruments TI-30XB where possible.

They can be purchased brand new from Officeworks here.

Support for CASIO FX-82AU will also be provided if required. It is highly recommended that students use the TI-30XB as its functionality and performance are generally superior to that of the CASIO FX-82AU.

What software is used in this course?

Artin Education utilises a variety of software for Education, both during class and outside of class. Software operating costs are included with fees, there is no separate charge for technology. Below is a list of the core software that we use.

  • Artin Online - our Learning Management System
  • Zoom - for online lessons, all lessons will be delivered in a hybrid mode for 2023 - this means both in-person and online options are available

We also use a variety of other software to facilitate learning. These range from online quizzing, notes to results tracking software.

What do I need to know about fees and payments? 

Artin Education accepts payments using Credit Card via Stripe - you will receive an invoice once payment has been made.

Charles Kuang is a co-director of Artin Education and its head Chemistry Tutor of Artin Education.

Having achieved an ATAR of 99.95 in 2022, with raw scores of 50 in Chemistry, Specialist Mathematics, Mathematical Methods, Further Mathematics, and English, he went on to study undergraduate Medicine at Monash University.

Charles was the recipient of the University of Melbourne Chancellor's scholarship and the Sir John Monash Scholarship of Distinction.

He has worked as a VCE and Careers mentor at Yarra Valley Grammar School, guiding Year 12 cohorts through the challenges of VCE.
