Head of Scholarship and Selective  entry - ARTIN EDUCATION

Message from Sam Koh

Hi there!

I’ve worked with many aspiring scholarship and selective-entry students across Victoria, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that the examiners aren’t just testing knowledge—they’re testing nerve. That’s where I come in.

I’m Sam Koh - raw 50 in VCE English, 99.90 ATAR, and proud recipient of offers from both Melbourne High School and Haileybury College. I know first-hand what it feels like to sit in a silent hall with everything riding on a single booklet. I just wanted to share a little of my teaching philosophy.

Blueprints, not band-aids. Scholarship and selective exams are predictable once you’ve decoded the blueprint. I break down each section - comprehension, persuasive writing, mathematics, abstract reasoning - into repeatable patterns so students can recognise the trap before they fall in.

Dual-discipline edge. My strength in mathematics means I teach quantitative sections with the same rigour I apply to writing. Students learn to switch gears between essays and algebra without losing momentum.

Tailored micro-goals. Every student starts with a diagnostic session that isolates two or three leverage points. Weekly targets focus on those points until they’re strengths, until we see improvement.

Mindset conditioning. A brilliant answer is useless if it never makes it onto paper. We practise timed drills, stress-management cues, and post-task reflection so exam day feels like just another rehearsal.

Personal, not production-line.
Scholarship candidates range from Year 5 new entrants to Year 9 battle-hardened repeaters, and no two journeys match. If your child is ready to trade guesswork for a game plan, sign up for the limited time mocks below. Places are limited, because focus should be too.

Yours truly,
~ Sam

Scholarship & Selective Entry Process in Melbourne, Victoria

The Scholarship and Selective Entry exams that determine your child's academic trajectory are just months away. Yet ACER themselves admit there are no official practice materials. Don't let your child face these crucial tests unprepared.

The Uncomfortable Truth Every Parent Needs to Know:
Right now, thousands of bright Year 7-8 students across Victoria are preparing to sit for
scholarship and selective entry exams that could completely transform their educational future.

These aren't just tests—they're gateways to:
  • Elite private schools offering world-class education
  • Selective government schools with accelerated programs
  • Scholarships worth tens of thousands of dollars
  • Academic opportunities that set the foundation for university and career success

But here's what most parents don't realise...

ACER, the organisation that creates these exams, openly states:

"There is no need for your child to practice or revise for the exam."

and while they admit that:

"It can be a good idea to prepare your child for the kinds of questions they will see in the exam. We have created a set of sample questions that you can download to familiarize your child with the style and format of the exam questions.

What they actually mean:

"Familiarisation is beneficial. However, they provide almost zero substantial preparation materials."

What This Means for Your Child

Your child will walk into one of the most important exams of their life having never seen:

The time pressures they'll face

The test-taking strategies that separate high achievers from the rest

Meanwhile, the students who do get in will be those whose parents found a way to prepare them properly.

The harsh reality? These exams aren't just testing intelligence—they're testing familiarity with the exam format itself.
