Why This Exam Truly Matters

Selective entry unlocks more than results — it opens networks, resilience, and opportunities.

Why does the school you enter matter?

The cohort effect is real.

Your child might look exceptional at a local school because the bar is lower.

That comfort creates complacency.

Competitive schools replace that illusion with a culture that stretches, measures, and accelerates—and that shows up years later in ATAR results.

Surrounded by Ambition, Students Aim Higher

It’s not just about individual ability — it’s the environment.

Selective and top independent schools consistently produce a higher percentage of 99+ ATAR scorers compared to local public schools.

When students are surrounded by peers who are equally ambitious, the bar rises for everyone. The pace is faster, the expectations sharper, and the outcomes stronger.

In a strong cohort, students don’t just aim to keep up — they’re pushed to reach higher.
— The Selective ENTRY Test Problem

Brilliant kids still miss out—here’s why.

  1. No strategy. Most students don’t know the shortcuts, traps, or time tactics these exams demand.

  2. Unseen topics. The test covers content schools haven’t taught yet — from trigonometry to surds to advanced reasoning.

  3. Pressure & Pacing. Exams are fast and unforgiving; without timed practice, accuracy collapses.

Bottom line: Potential isn’t enough. Only preparation that mirrors the exam turns ability into offers.
— The Solution:

Artin’s Formula for Success

Most students stumble because they don’t know the shortcuts or how to manage the clock.

  1. So we start with strategy-first teaching: when to skip, mental maths strategies, and how to write responses that examiners reward.

  2. Then there’s the content gap. The exams reach far beyond the school syllabus — into higher-order algebra, number theory, non-routine reasoning, and advanced vocabulary. We fill those gaps directly, teaching what schools won’t cover until years later.

  3. But even knowledge and strategy aren’t enough without the ability to perform under pressure. That’s why students go through regular timed practice: weekly mock exams under real conditions, followed by detailed post-test clinics. They learn to think fast, stay calm, and finish on time.

The result?

A program that transforms “smart kids” into offer-ready students, equipped not just with knowledge, but with the strategies, resilience, and confidence to secure selective entry and scholarships.

— Why Families Choose ARTIN education

We provide exactly what each child needs to go from A to Z.

After every mock, students don’t just get a score — they get item-level analysis and clear actions for the next week. Immediate feedback, visible gains, no guesswork.

They are guided by Sam Koh, Head Tutor for Selective Entry. Sam is in the rare position of having achieved both: entry into a top selective school and a 75% academic scholarship to Haileybury College. He knows first-hand what it takes — and how to teach it back.

In writing, feedback isn’t just “good job” — it’s line-by-line rewrites, annotations, and models of high-scoring responses, so students know exactly what excellence looks like.

Every student works through a library of high-quality questions and exam-realistic mocks, building not just confidence but stamina. When it comes to interviews, they learn to articulate strengths, reflect with clarity, and show impact — skills that carry beyond the test itself.

And for parents, every step is transparent: clear reports after each mock, showing progress and readiness toward an offer.

A Personal Message from Sam

This is why we do what we do.
When I think back to my own journey preparing for selective school and scholarship exams, I remember the stress, the long hours, and the feeling that there was always more I should be doing. It wasn't easy — but I also discovered along the way what really works, and what doesn't.

That's why I started this program. I don't just want students to practise harder - I want them to learn smarter. Every student is different, and l've seen first-hand how powerful it is when the teaching is tailored to their strengths and weaknesses. It's not about chasing perfection, it's about building confidence and showing them they are capable of much more than they think.

I've been lucky enough to achieve academic results I'm proud of, but the part that matters most to me now is helping students believe in themselves. Nothing compares to seeing a student walk into an exam not just prepared, but confident — and knowing that l've played a part in opening doors for their future.

That's why I do this, and why I believe this program truly makes a difference.

- Samuel Koh
